Lucy Mulenkei
For 17 years, Lucy served as a broadcast journalist for a government-run radio station, focusing her reporting on environmental issues in rural Kenya and the broader East African region. During this time, she also coordinated sustainable development trainings and capacity-building initiatives for Indigenous rural nomadic pastoralist and hunter-gatherer communities, utilizing traditional knowledge and fostering discussions on biodiversity.
In addition to her broadcasting career, Lucy has worked closely with over 100 grassroots organizations in East Africa, collaborating on various projects. She has also established connections with grassroots women across the globe, including Latin America, the Pacific, the USA, Canada, and Asia. Lucy is the co-founder and co-chair of the Indigenous Women Biodiversity Network and actively participates in the International Forum on Biodiversity and the International Forum of Indigenous Women, where she coordinates various forums and networks in Africa.
Lucy's commitment extends beyond her work at IIN. She leads efforts to advance Indigenous women and girls as climate defenders, champions for their rights, and active leaders within their communities.
